Our tips for a safe first experience
Our tips for a safe first experience
If climbing is a new activity for you, we want to make sure you have the best possible experience. It’s no secret that climbing is inherently difficult, both mentally and physically. It’s actually one of the reasons we love it so much. Here are a few tips to help you get started with confidence.
- Always make sure to warm up properly.
- Choose climbing routes suited to your level.
- Keep as much of a safe distance as possible from other climbers. We recommend a minimum safety distance of 2.5 metres.
- After climbing a route, climb down using all the available holds whenever possible. We provide grey safety holds for a safe descent.
- If you have to jump, absorb the fall with your legs, followed by a roll, avoiding controlling the fall with your arms.
- Running is strictly forbidden in the climbing areas and in the cafeteria.
- We recommend removing all jewellery when climbing, such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings.
- Everyone is required to respect the zones
Tips to get started
Do minors need parental consent?
Minors over 13 can climb at Hall9 without parental supervision. We ask that you always carry a written authorisation from a parent or guardian. You can download a sample authorisation.
What should I wear for climbing?
Wear something you feel comfortable moving in. We suggest flexible trousers and nothing too baggy. Shorts or trousers that don’t need a belt are best. Just make sure to bring socks to wear with our rental shoes.
I’ve never climbed before – what are my options?

Climb on our bouldering walls:
Bouldering is a form of climbing that needs no ropes or harness. You move on shorter walls (3.5 to 4.5 m high) with a fully padded floor to keep you safe. This style of climbing doesn’t require a partner, which makes it accessible and convenient for everyone.
To discover bouldering in detail, check out our explainer video (TBC). Before you start, a member of our team will give you a short safety introduction.
Introductory bouldering course:
For a more complete and personalised introduction, we offer introductory bouldering courses. They’re perfect for learning the basics and developing your skills in a guided, safe setting.
