7. Sanctions

  • Any breach of an article of these rules, and any person or group whose attitude does not meet the criteria of safety or good conduct, may be sanctioned with immediate exclusion.

Appendix 1 – Risk analysis and safety rules

  • The climber must warm up at the start of the session and choose boulders suited to their skills and level of practice: height, difficulty, exposure, descent. They must therefore know how to give up on a problem that presents a risk of traumatic movement or difficult fall. They should favour down-climbing via an easy area, using all available holds. Experienced climbers are advised to spot each other. The spotting technique requires prior learning; inexperience makes spotting ineffective or dangerous.
  • Safety distance: In the climbing areas, it is essential to stay at a good distance from the climber’s potential landing point. Petite Ile recommends a minimum safety distance of 2.5 metres. Likewise, a minimum distance of 2.5 metres is required between 2 climbers on the wall.

Fall control: it is recommended to use the roll technique (parachute landing roll)

  • The fall is absorbed with the legs followed by a roll, avoiding placing an arm between the body and the mats in an attempt to control the fall.
  • It is recommended to limit the height of voluntary falls by using all the holds to climb down.
  • Running in the bouldering room and the cafeteria is strictly prohibited.
  • Petite Ile recommends removing all jewellery when climbing (rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings…). Everyone is required to respect the safety zones marked on the floor when routes are being set or during work on the facilities.
